There once was a major Christian leader who advocated armed might to both stem the tide of an invading and quite bloody army as well as to protect individual Christians threatened by the same invaders. Almost a thousand years later, the warning largely attributed to philosopher Jorge Santyana still rings true: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Continue reading “Russian Orthodox Church declares war on ISIS a ‘holy battle’”
In the wake of Barack Obama’s diplomatically finalized nuclear deal with Iran, the ayatollahs have found themselves with even deeper pockets then they already have. With Iran already perched atop a veritable ocean of oil, the ayatollahs calling the shots in the Tehran-government now have the international green light to go forward with not only a nuclear program, but thanks to Barack Obama and John Kerry, they will soon have access to well over a tenth of a trillion American dollars. With it already verified by numerous media sources world-wide that Russian Naval Infantry is already ashore in Syria, it’s now being reported that the Chinese have a mini-armada already dropping anchor in a Syrian port. And as being reported, Beijing is far from done beefing up its presence in the Mediterranean Sea, formerly known in naval circles as an American Lake. In what’s happening with disturbing regularity, hundreds and hundreds of Muslim pilgrims are killed during the once n a lifetime required Hajj to Mecca. Among the latest carnage are accusations of the Saudi government treating the dead no better than piles of garbage. Even worse, one reputable news service is reporting that survivors were trapped among the dead, yet died during the mass of confusion.
As reported by Esquire magazine on Sept. 24, 2015, and also by Toronto Sun (of Canada) reporter Tarek Fatah on Sept. 25, 2015 via Twitter, of the at least 717 people killed in a stampede of humanity in the Islamic pilgrimage site in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the Saudi officials are being accused of treating the dead with little regard to common decency. As the Sun’s Fatah sent via his Twitter account, two of the three photos show what appears to be a bulldozer-like front-end loader literally scooping up human corpses and dumping them into heavy duty trash trucks.
The third and most prominent of the photos sent out by Fatah is also featured by Esquire, showing a stack of dead bodies piled 5 high. Also on Sept. 25, 2015, Nidal al-Mughrabi of the Reuters news service reported of the terrifying moment when two massive groups of pilgrims literally crashed into each other, resulting in the 717 reported dead thus far and 863 injured.
As the throngs of people were converging on a crossroads in the Mecca area of Mina, a few miles east of Mecca, on their way to performing the “Stoning of the Devil” ritual at Jamarat, it was then they crashed into each other. As one eyewitness who requested to remain anonymous stated, “There were layers of bodies, maybe three layers. Some people were alive under the pile of bodies and were trying to climb up but in vain, because their strength failed and they dropped dead.” Daytime temperatures in Mecca at the time was 105°F (40.5°C).
Hakim, from Morocco, said: “It is simply scary to hear how people crushed one another. More frightening is that we do not know how it happened.” An anonymous Algerian told his nation’s al-Shurouk television: “We saw death: People were stepping over the mutilated bodies in front of you, four or five on top of each other.”
Saudi Health Minister Khalid al-Falih said “an investigation would be conducted rapidly and a final toll of dead and wounded calculated.” Blaming the stampede on the pilgrims themselves, the Minister al-Falih added the cause “was perhaps because some pilgrims moved without following instructions by the relevant authorities.”
Citing multiple sources, Esquire also cited that incidents such as the latest “are not uncommon during the Hajj. In 2006, for example, hundreds of people were killed in a similar stampede in Mina. But Thursday’s event was the deadliest such incident since 1990, when 1,426 pilgrims died in a stampede. Earlier this month, 109 people were killed in a crane collapse in Mecca in preparation for the pilgrimage.”
Iran, Saudia Arabia’s chief rival in the region, slammed the Saudis guilty of “incapability and incompetence to run the haj.” Chiming in was Tehran Friday prayer leader Mohammed Emami-Kashani who angrily stated, “The world will not accept excuses like the weather was hot or the pilgrims were disorganized.”
As the old saying goes, “what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.” The guys with all the shiny stuff on their collars at the Pentagon just may have that adage picking at the proverbial scabs on their collective consciences about now. Especially in light of a number of Marines and soldiers recently accusing the brass of attempting to cover up an open secret in the Afghanistan theater of operations. And the accusation that the open secret is in so many words, American troops are directed to look the other way when Afghan men rape boys, even if the rape is taking place on an American military installation. Continue reading “Despite Pentagon denial, Afghan boy rape known of for years”
Unfortunately, human history is replete with examples of mass hysteria where the only guilt assigned was guilt by accusation. The latest instance very well could be at a certain Middle Atlantic university whose various teams have been assigned the moniker of a violent female chicken. Russian President Vladimir Putin has long been accused of attempting to resurrect the long dead Russian Empire. If the former KGB Lt. Col.’s moves in the war-torn nation of Syria are any indication of his real intentions, the accusations may be true.
Sometimes, a nation’s leaders must draw the line between what is a refugee crisis and what is an invasion. Much like a nation’s leaders must draw the line when it come to spending the taxpayers money even when that same nation is estimated to be just a few short months away from seeing itself at an eye popping $19 trillion in debt.
Hungarian camerawoman Petra Laszlo is seeing many a wagging finger aimed directly at her from well-heeled pundits who wouldn’t know a real refugee from a bowl of kimchee. As it turns out, the Magyar media matron was caught on film giving a trip to an alleged refugee who was also seen on film trying to give Hungarian police the slip.
Despite being the official media organ of the American federal government, the VOA (Voice of America) does have a global reputation of fair and objective reporting. Case in point would be VOA’s national security correspondent Jeff Seldin’s report of Sept. 18, 2015 in which he noted the continual beefing up of Russia’s offensive combat forces in war torn Syria. Continue reading “Syria – Pentagon verifies 400% increase of Russian Marines in country”
While the American media focuses in on the Trump vs. Fiorina verbal zinger-fest with laser-like precision, foreign news services are picking up the Yankee slack on reporting of the Russian military build-up in the Middle East. As reported by Great Britain’s The Guardian and Israel’s military-centric new media portal DEBKAfile, both on Sept. 17, 2015, and also The Manila Times on Sept. 16, 2015, Russian Naval Infantry (Marines) have left their coastal bases and heading for a showdown with the Islamic jihadists situated further inland.
While most in the American media have essentially turned a blind eye to the Russians flexing their military muscle in Syria, even the handful that have acknowledged the Russian build-up as little more that the expansion of a fairly obscure airstrip on the Syrian coast. And with that expansion comes a handful of Russian Marines for base security and a handful of air defense missiles.Yet the latest from the Middle East is that the Russians have hit the ground with the most offensive weapons since morning breath and body odor.
As every armchair historian knows, in 1914 a set of second and third rate nations drew the globe’s superpowers into the First World War. Closer to present day, Western Asia is a similar tangle of treaties and mutual defense pacts in which a single amateurish diplomatic decision or military misstep could conceivably result in a much, much wider war. Three years ago Barack Obama gave a very direct warning to Syrian President Bashir al-Assad to cease and desist using chemical weapons. Diplomatic and military wonks across the board agreed the same warning was also indirectly aimed directly at Assad’s patron in Moscow. To accentuate just how much he really meant it this time, the Commander-in-Chief of the American Armed Forces actually uttered the unmistakable words: Red line.
In what some are calling yet another diplomatic thumb directly in the eye of Barack Obama, Iranian special forces have reportedly landed in Syria to join with the relative handful of Russian Naval Infantry already in-country to aid the regime’s strongman retain power. As reported by Mark Rivett-Carnac of the Reuters news service via Time magazine, and also by Johnlee Varghese of the International Business Times (IBT) India edition, both on Sept. 11, 2015, a mixed force of approximately 1,000 Iranian Marines and members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps are within a figurative stone’s throw from the roughly 100 Russian Naval Infantry (Marines) who recently touched down in the war-torn nation. Forget about much the ballyhooed Zombie Apocalypse that film and television producers have romanticized to the point of becoming a cultural phenomenon. The American people may find themselves busy just dealing with a standard, run of the mill apocalypse that could kill millions.
There are certain things that all Corps of Marines have in common regardless of nationality. Case in point would be one of the official functions of the American Marine Corps: “for service with the fleet in the seizure or defense of advanced naval bases…” With a flurry of reports coming out of the eastern Mediterranean hitting the news wires by the moment, it certainly appears that the Russian Marines have the same duties as their American counterparts.
As every Star Trek fan will tell you, The starship USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) has gone up against the likes of the Klingons; the Romulans; the Ferengi; the Cardassians; William Shatner’s spoken word version of Rocket Man, just to name a few (The Shat-Man’s performance can be painFootball phallic formation’s faux-fellatio results in fine for forlorn facultyfully viewed here).
But between the likes of the hard turtle shell-headed Klingons, and über-sexy green-skinned dancing girls tempting the never too choosy Captain Kirk, Trekkies and Trekkers finally put aside their East Coast – West Coast-esque feud to agree that Scotty’s baby has never had to arm photon torpedoes against a giant Jayhawk, Kansas or otherwise.
Even though officials in just about every sport from cricket to American football to professional European kickball (aka: soccer) are technically considered a part of the field, it’s just not all that out of the ordinary that a referee every now and then may get a bit jostled about by players. Yet even the most novice of sports fans agree that a duo of Texas football players purposefully blindsided a backfield ref. Continue reading “Cheap shots against Texas referee, players now claim he’s racist”
Author George Orwell once famously penned in his exposé of totalitarianism, “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”. The hypocrisy of the pigs in Animal Farm is being reminded to the citizenry present day by more than a few political pundits, especially in light of the recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the federalization of homosexual marriage.
Between the Syrian National Army; ISIS; al-Qaeda; Hezbollah; Iranian Revolutionary Guards and al-Quds fighters; Hamas; the al-Nusra Front; Russian Navy and Air Force troops; Palestinian Liberation Army; a host of lesser known armed groups but with impressive names such as The Jihad in the Path of God Brigade, and The Falcons of Mount Zawiya Brigade, suffice it to say Syria is a very, very dangerous place. Even Britain’s venerable BBC has estimated the total number of armed rebel groups in the 1,000 range.
While Auntie Beeb also estimates the total number of fighters to be somewhere around 100,000, these numbers were from late 2013. With the likes of ISIS reportedly pulling in 1,000 new recruits a month, the total numbers have undeniably ballooned. As reported by Donna Rachel Edmunds of the Breitbart.com news portal on Sept. 5, 2015, somewhere between 10 to 12 millions Syrian civilians have been dislocated during the current revolutionary war against the Damascus government.
While Edmunds did specify that the majority of those uprooted by the war have remained within the borders of what at least is technically Syria, roughly four million have fled to neighboring predominately Muslim nations or to Europe. Interestingly enough, the five wealthiest Arab-Muslim nations in the region have refused to accept a single Syrian refugee, Muslim or otherwise.
As Edmunds penned, “Yet amidst cries for Europe to do more, it has transpired that of the five wealthiest countries on the Arabian Peninsula, that is, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain, not one has taken in a single refugee from Syria.” Also noted by the Breitbart.com reporter, the five cited nations have argued against accepting any Syrians due to their concern that “terrorists could be hiding within an influx of people.”
Edmunds also added to her report a tweet from Raheem Kassam, the editor-in-chief of Breitbart-London. As Raheem noted, the following listing of neighboring countries and how many Syrian refugees they’ve accepted:
- Lebanon – 1.2 million
- Turkey – 1.8 million
- Iraq – 247,861
- Jordan – 624,427
- Egypt – 133,000
- Saudi Arabia – 0
- Kuwait – 0
- Bahrain – 0
- United Arab Emirates – 0
- Qatar – 0
While Edmunds did note that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE have written sizable aid checks to assist the mass of humanity displaced from Syria, she also cited that Great Britain alone has contributed more than the three oil-soaked nations combined. But Edmunds shouldn’t feel alone from the inevitable blow-back she’ll receive for calling out the richest Arab-Muslim nations. For his history of working with conservative politicians and publications in Britain, Raheem Kassam was named by the London-based Islamic Human Rights Commission as winner of the 2014 “Islamophobe of the Year” award.
Meanwhile in the United States, Breitbart.com’s Ian Hanchett reported on Sept. 5, 2015, that despite his rhetoric of too many low-skilled illegal immigrants edntering the country, GOP front-runner Donald Trump was interviewed by Cokie Roberts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” When asked for his take of the human tsunami of refugees flooding Europe, Trump stated, “There’s only so much we can do. We have to fix our own country” but the US should “help as much as possible.” When asked specifically if the US should accept any of the refugees, The Donald plainly stated, “And the answer is possibly yes, Cokie, possibly yes.”
Despite the recent Supreme Court ruling that angered both traditional marriage advocates and supporters of the 10th Amendment, the fallout from the federalization of gay marriage continues to make headlines. As reported by Jonathan Cooper of the Associated Press (AP) via ABC News on Sept. 5, 2015, and also in a collaborative report by ABC’s by Emily Shapiro, Jennifer Metz and Seni Tienabeso on Sept. 4, 2015, the latest shots fired aren’t just in the hollows of Kentucky, but also to the Cascade Range of Oregon.
Proving that social media is quickly replacing hard copy newspapers and magazines, an individual who goes by the nom de guerre raciste of King Noble Black has in just a mere handful of days cobbled for himself a very amateurish yet sanguine homemade video that’s already hovering at a third of a million internet views. As reported by Jerome Hudson of the Breitbart.com news portal, and also by Christian Datoc of the Daily Caller, both on Sept. 3, 2015, the king without a kingdom has left very little to the imagination in his call for the killings of all whites and also all law enforcement officials regardless of race.
As the majority of Americans are already aware, there have been a rash of uniformed law enforcement officials gunned down while serving and protecting the citizenry. Yet the latest killing of a Texas police officer is disturbing both in its savagery and bringing back memories of the Manson Family slaughters of the late 1960s.
Despite confessing to his crimes, the state of Missouri executed the kidnapper, rapist, and murderer of a 15-year-old child. Twenty six years after Roderick Nunley kidnapped, tortured, raped, then hacked to death young Ann Harrison, the punishment he was sentenced to was finally meted out.
