Classless Pig: Pallbearer at Cummings Memorial Refusus to Shake Mitch McConnell’s Hand

McConnell eulogizes Cummings in D.C. ceremony

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) had the class not only to attend the Washington, DC memorial service held for Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), he also eulogized his fellow legislator.

In spite of McConnell’s class move, an individual identified as a “friend” of Cummings, as well as officially assigned to the burial party, instead chose to exhibit a clearly classless move.

As reported by London’s The Daily Mail; (emphasis mine)

A friend of Elijah Cummings left Mitch McConnell stunned by refusing to shake the Senate Majority Leader’s hand at the late congressman’s memorial service in the Capitol.

Footage of the moment, which has been viewed 2.1 million times since it was uploaded to Twitter on Thursday, shows Bobby Rankin shaking hands with a number of lawmakers.

Rankin is one of the men listed as a pallbearer for Cummings’s funeral on Friday.

In the video, Rankin hugs House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) before shaking the hands of House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), House Minority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

But Rankin bypasses McConnell (R-KY), who was standing next to Schumer, as he goes to hug Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

McConnell is clearly left stunned as Schumer can barely hold back a sly grin.

  1. His brother was a disabled vet who couldn’t get proper treatment at the VA. Rep. Cummings, on behalf of this man, asked Senator McConnell, who happens to sit on the Appropriations committee and it’s sub-committee that oversees the VA, for help getting the man’s brother treatment. McConnell refused to reach out on his behalf. The guys sees McConnel specifically as the face of the bureaucracy that failed his brother who died of an illness linked to his time as a Marine. He gets a pass.
