It’s never a good idea to anger an American Leatherneck. It’s even worse to raise the ire of a group of Teufelhunden. The epitome of stupid is to anger multiple Marines while threatening women and children.
Case in point would be a Moroccan wannabe terrorist who opened fire on a Belgain train running from Amsterdam to Paris, seriously wounding one of the Marines and also a British passenger. As reported by the Breitbart.com news portal, and also by The Daily Mail (of London, England), both on Aug. 21, 2015, the shooter, named Sliman Hamzi, was armed with a “number” of weapons. The only specifics released on Hamzi’s small arsenal was that he was armed at least with an AK-47 Soviet-era assault weapon and nine fully loaded magazines holding at least 200 rounds.
While overall specifics are still coming to the surface, one thing’s for sure; a small group of US Marines aboard the train would have none of it. While Breitbart.com is citing there were two Marines involved, The Daily Mail published the total at three.
With the number of Devil Dogs involved still unclear, it is agreed upon by the media that the Marines were unarmed and that they took it upon themselves to physically bring an end to the terrorist attack in the making. According to Breitbart.com, after Hamzi initially opened fire, the Marines “restrained” the shooter.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve praised the Marines for their timely intervention. He said: ‘Thanks to them we have averted a drama. ‘(The Americans were) particularly courageous and showed extreme bravery in extremely difficult circumstances.’
Cazeneuve wasn’t the only official of the Gallic Republic to release a statement. French Interior ministry spokesman Pierre Henry Brandet said in an initial comment on the attack: “Talking about a terrorist motive would be premature at the moment.”
