He’s in his mid-50s, free fall skydives to relax, and once did a cameo on Star Trek. She looks like a cross between Audrey Hepburn and Cindy Crawford, isn’t afraid to stand up to Islamic fundamentalists, and has described herself as “A mum and a wife with a really cool day job.” The King and Queen of Jordan have also found themselves rapidly approaching America’s version of royalty: Rock star status.
As reported by CNN on Feb. 9, 2015 (updated), and also by The Daily Mail (of London, England) on Feb. 11, 2015, it turns out the monarchy of The Hashemite Kingdom have become all the rage. As it turns out, the ethnically Arab power couple are more than popular with many American conservatives.
As Jason DeWitt of the obviously conservative Top Right News recently opined regarding the Jordanian king, Abdullah is “seriously bad ass.” While many conservatives have been hammered as bigots for speaking out against Islamic Jihaddists and also decrying the lack of Muslim leaders willing to take a stand against them, DeWitt doesn’t hide his admiration for the former Officer in the British Army. The right wing reporter also glowingly said of the Jordanian ruler, “Many heads of states around the world have paid lip service to fighting jihadists and standing against the monsters of ISIS. King Abdullah is walking the talk.”
As for the Queen, her popularity soared as she recently visited the village of murdered Air Force pilot Mu’ath al-Kasasbeh to console his widow as well as lead a street procession to honor the slain soldier. Perhaps proving that Jordan isn’t an absolute Islamist monarchy, Queen Rania has riled certain members of the nation’s parliament when she called for so-called honor killings be re-classified as homicides. She also noticeably has chosen not to wear the traditional headscarf worn by many Muslim women. As quoted by CNN, she said “There are many women like me who do not wear the veil. So, as long as it’s a choice. I have nothing against the veil.”
In the wake of the brutal killing of Lt. Kasasbeh, King Abdullah has taken a very public hard core stance against ISIS. As he said, the fight against the terrorists would continue until his military “runs out of fuel and bullets.” Putting his proverbial money where his mouth is, NBC News reports that the monarch has stepped up airstrikes against ISIS as well as deploying thousands of his troops to the border region of Iraq that is currently occupied by ISIS.
