The truism of “everything old is new again” can be as good or as bad as the situation at hand. History appears to be repeating itself when it comes to Obama Administration officials and mothers of Americans killed in the Middle East. As reported by the New York Daily News on Sept. 11, 2014, the mother of recently slain journalist James “Jim” Foley came down hard on how the Obama crew has been treating her ever since her son was initially taken hostage by the ISIS terrorist organization.
While appearing on CNN, Jim Foley’s mother, Dianne, said she was “embarrassed and appalled” by the way the Administration has conducted themselves towards she and her family since the news was released that her son was taken hostage in Syria almost two years ago. According to Mrs. Foley, Administration officials threatened her family with legal prosecution if Jim’s family and friends attempted to raise any ransom money.
Adding to the family’s fear and angst, the grief stricken mother also stated she felt as if government officials treated them shabbily and with no small amount of indifference when it came to getting her son released. Mrs. Smith opined of her interactions with Team Obama, “I think our efforts to get Jim freed were an annoyance. It didn’t seem to be in (U.S.) strategic interest, if you will.”
With the Obama deal to swap five high ranking Taliban officials held in Guantanamo Bay for Bowe Bergdahl, someone in the government saw fit to notify the Foley family there wouldn’t be any swap or prisoner exchange. Even more salt was figuratively rubbed in the would when the family was “warned not to go to the media” and also flatly told that there would be no military rescue effort launched.
“Jim would have been saddened” by the U.S. response, Mrs. Foley said during her interview. “Jim believed, till the end, that his country would come to (his) aid. Our country let Jim down.”
Her comments are in the wake of Pat Smith slamming the Obama Administration since the death of her son, Sean, and three other US citizens killed in the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. As noted by Fox News Insider on Sept. 11, 2014, Mrs. Smith met with three survivors of the 2012 attack who have since accused government higher-ups of delaying military back-up for the beleaguered Americans for at least half an hour. As Mrs. Smith declared, “Who’s the stupid idiot that we have in our government that would order something like that?!”
