After her dead body was found abandoned and the only swaddling clothes she ever knew were bloody rags, five-month preemie Baby Monica was finally laid to rest.
As reported by the all news TV station 12 News Brooklyn, members of the pro-life group, The Life Center of New York, the Redemptorist Community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Basilica of Brooklyn, the staff of Resurrection Cemetery of Staten Island, and lastly, officers of the New York City Police Department joined together as one to ensure the child posthumously named Monica would be laid to rest in a dignified manner.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Redemptorists while hundreds attended the funeral Mass.
Members of New York’s Finest stepped-up to act as pallbearers, although it only took one officer to carry the tiny coffin. Reportedly, a lone NYPD bagpiper mournfully played Amazing Grace as the officers escorted Monica’s coffin into the basilica.
12 News Brooklyn also cited that the abandoned child will be laid to rest in the Guardian Angels section of Resurrection Cemetery. This particular area is set aside specifically for the earthly remains of unclaimed children abandoned for dead.
When her body was found last February in the Brooklyn residential neighborhood of East New York, it was The Life Center of New York who requested of the Medical Examiner’s Office that her remains be released to the organization so “they could give her a proper burial.”
The East New York neighborhood is best known as the birthplace of mobsters John Gotti and Henry Hill (of Goodfellas fame), as well as rapper “Uncle Murda” (AKA: Leonard Grant).
