Obama omits God from his version of the Gettysburg Address

Today’s date cites the 150th anniversary of the iconic Gettysburg Address delivered by the first Republican ever elected to the presidency, President Abraham Lincoln at the bloody battlefield in Southern Pennsylvania. What many consider unfortunate for all Americans regardless of political persuasion, Barack Obama has not only decided to take a pass on personally attending the celebration, he’s also changed the words to the Address itself by omitting the reference to The Almighty, as reported by the right-of-center news portal Brietbart.com on Nov. 19, 2013 and earlier this year by this writer for Examiner.com on Oct. 31, 2013.

Renown documentarian Ken Burns recently filmed all living presidents as well as a number of personalities from pop culture to include Hollywood stars reciting the famed speech for an upcoming project.

For a yet to be explained reason, Obama’s recitation as noted by Breitbart.com “in a line that every other celebrity delivered” correctly, when it came time for the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to repeat “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom,” Obama failed to correctly state the words “under God.”

This sin’t the first time that Obama has somehow forgotten God.

During a speech delivered at a gala dinner hosted by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute in 2010 (video here), Obama recited a section of the Declaration of Independence.

Specifically, when he came to the line “endowed with certain inalienable rights” Obama somehow missed the line was correctly written “endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights”

No longer a Fan of Abraham…

Many political wonk are scratching their heads as to why Obama has decided not to attend today’s celebration in Gettysburg, especially in light that throughout his political career Obama has evoked the name of Abraham Lincoln whenever politically expedient.

Examples include:

  • Obama was the keynote speaker at the dedication of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, IL.
  • In 2007, Obama announced his candidacy for the presidency from the steps of the Old State Capitol in Springfield, as did Lincoln in 1857.
  • In 2009, Obama utilized the Lincoln Family Bible to be sworn into his first term.
  • Yet again in 2013, Obama used the same Lincoln Holy Book to be sworn into his second term.

In full knowledge that the sesquicentennial of the historic event at Gettysburg will only happen once during the course of human history, Obama has opted to attend to other pressing presidential matters.

According to the official government website for the presidential schedule, Obama’s day today consists of meeting with various governmental officials and also attend a question and answer period with The Wall Street Journal CEO Council annual meeting hosted by Washington DC’s famed The Four Seasons Hotel.
