When Barack Obama coined the phrase “shovel ready,” this probably isn’t exactly what he had in mind. As reported by Blake Neff of the Daily Caller news portal, and also by Hannah Hess of the everything politics website Roll Call, both on Oct. 13, 2015, a Democrat staffer was picked up by police for attacking his gay lover with a shovel, only to be stopped by his wife before he inflicted further damage on the anonymous other lover.
Baltimore police arrested one of the senior staffers for Michigan congressional heavyweight Rep. Sander Levin (D) on charges of second-degree assault and the use of a dangerous weapon. According to the police report, Tim Foster armed himself with a smallish shovel then attacked a yet to be identified individual described only as a black male who was romantically involved with the congressional staffer.
The lovers quarrel began at about 12:30 am last Tuesday at a Baltimore residence initially as a shouting match between the two. It was then that things not only went from bad to worse, but took a somewhat bizarre turn as it was Foster’s wife who intervened on behalf of her husband’s boyfriend.
When the screaming match went physical, Foster had his boyfriend in a choke hold and according to the attackee, Foster was screaming “I want to kill you. Die, dirty faggy.” The boyfriend managed to free himself of the choke hold, only to see Foster snatch up a kitchen knife.
As the boyfriend bolted for the stairs to escape the furious Foster, the congressional staffer took chase. With knife in hand, Foster reportedly gave the more-than-slightly creepy warning of “When you reach the fifth step, I am going to stab you.”
It was then that Foster lunged at his boyfriend with the knife. But luckily for the fleeing lover, Foster’s wife “got in the way” and the knife then fell to the floor, the report states. The boyfriend informed police that he attempted to flee the property, only this time Foster went after him with a small black and red shovel.
Foster continued to assault the man until he got into his vehicle, the police report states. The boyfriend was so badly injured that he was hospitalized with scrapes and bruises across his neck and torso. For his part, Foster was released after being jailed overnight.
Foster has worked the past seven years for Rep. Levin, where he currently serves as his online communications manager. Levin’s office placed Foster on unpaid leave but otherwise declined to comment on the matter.
