It’s no secret that President Trump and the social media titans don’t have much love for each other.
While more than a few conservatives very well may agree with the Prez that the likes of Twitter and Facebook have a distinct bias against conservatives, we’ve also wondered what could ever be done to ensure these internet giants cease and desist from their collective heavy-handed silencing of anything and everything that even dares to slightly lean right.
With the official title of White House Correspondent, Jeff Mason of the Reuters news service is noting that White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany has cryptically told the WH press corps that President Trump that something, indeed, will be done.
.@realDonaldTrump will sign an executive order shortly about social media and internet companies, @PressSec tells reporters on Air Force One. The president has been very critical of @Twitter in the last 24 hours.
While McEnany was short on specifics, many on the Right are breathing a sign of relief that the very same supposedly “politically neutral” tech companies that have an almost total stranglehold on social media will finally be brought to heel.
While the likes of Google, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter have a special dispensation from the US Congress that these Silicon Valley companies are not technically considered news organizations, there is speculation that the President very well may deem them such, therefore making them subject to anti-monopoly legislation.
Did you know that the Russians actually put forth a huge effort to convince the American people the the recently elected President Donald Trump had no business being moving to the White House, and actually sought to de-legitimize his win in 2016?
If you didn’t know, don’t feel bad. The Establishment Media has either given this bombshell news either scant attention, if not completely ignored it.
With the Swamp Democrats and their GOP Establishment allies, along with their always reliable media stooges, this up-to-date Axis of Evil has done everything in their power to persuade the people that evil Donald Trump was secretly colluding with equally evil Vladimir Putin to steal the presidential election from the virginal Hillary Clinton.
But amazingly enough, Facebook’s general counsel attorney Colin Stretch testified before the Senate’s Judiciary Committee’s Crime and Terrorism Subcommittee, the Democrat and RINO narrative has been turned on its head.
As reported by Politico’s Nancy Scola and Ashley Gold (emphasis mine);
Top lawyers from Facebook and Twitter said Tuesday that Russian-linked posts and advertisements placed on the social networks after Election Day sought to sow doubt about President Donald Trump’s victory.
Facebook general counsel Colin Stretch told a Senate Judiciary panel that content generated by a Russian troll farm known as the Internet Research Agency after Nov. 8 centered on “fomenting discord about the validity of [Trump’s] election.” That’s a change from Russia’s pre-election activity, which was largely centered on trying to denigrate Hillary Clinton, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a January report.
“During the election, they were trying to create discord between Americans, most of it directed against Clinton. After the election you saw Russian-tied groups and organizations trying to undermine President Trump’s legitimacy. Is that what you saw on Facebook?” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) asked at the hearing.
Stretch and his Twitter counterpart, Sean Edgett, called that an “accurate” statement.
However as NewsBusters.org reporter Kyle Drennen published, the big three network news channels failed to objectively and honestly report the unvarnished news as it was breaking on Capitol Hill (emphasis mine);
While the broadcast networks all eagerly hyped social media executives being hauled before Congress on Tuesday to testify about Russian interference in the 2016 election, only CBS covered a revelation from the hearing that Russia sought to undermine Donald Trump’s legitimacy as president after the campaign was over.
On Tuesday, The Hill reported a specific example of how Russian-backed groups worked to undermine Trump immediately after the election. A left-wing protest against the then-President-elect was attended by thousands of demonstrators outside Trump Tower on November 12, 2016 and was “organized by the Facebook page for BlackMattersUS, a Russian-linked group that sought to capitalize on racial tensions between black and white Americans.”
At least CBS noted the fact that the President was a target of Russian propaganda, NBC and ABC didn’t bother to include that detail in their coverage of the hearing. Tuesday’s NBC Nightly News had a full report on the testimony and Wednesday’s Today show offered a 25-second news brief on how “officials from Facebook and Google and Twitter took a lashing from lawmakers over Russia’s involvement in last year’s presidential election.”
