Boko Haram’s days of running free rein could be brought to an end by a number of African nations essentially declaring war on the violent Islamists, as reported by the London-based Sky News on May 18, 2014. To further exacerbate an already tense situation, the African leaders announcement comes on the heels of the revelation by The Daily Beast on May 11, 2014 that the Obama Administration has been in possession of solid evidence since 2011 that Usama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist network has been Boko Haram’s de facto godfather and benefactor since their inception in 2002.
Recently revealed evidence captured from the bin Laden raid clearly cited that the al-Qaeda leader invested millions of dollars in Boko Haram. Not just investing the seed money, “‘There were channels between bin Laden and Boko Haram leadership,’ one senior U.S. intelligence official told The Daily Beast. ‘He gave some strategic direction at times.'”
