Moscow afraid of 700 American Marines

The Norwegian government has extended the invitation to the Trump Administration to slightly double the number of US Marines to participate in the Scandinavian version of “extreme cold weather training”.

If accepted, the number of Leathernecks involved in the six-month long training cycle would jump from approximately 300 to a whopping 700. And this has the Russians seeing red.

Maybe a tour of duty in Norway isn’t all bad.

As reported by Evie Fordham of The Daily Caller, the Russian embassy in Oslo has taken to Facebook to voice their displeasure;

The Russian Embassy in Norway warned of “consequences” after Norway invited up to 700 U.S. Marines to the country.

“We qualify them as clearly unfriendly and they will not remain without consequences.”

Not quite done whining over a battalion’s worth Marines, the Russkie rant continued on with the warning that the mere presence of the Marines would lead to an “arms race and lead to destabilization of the situation in northern Europe.”

Possibly missing something in the translations from Russian to Norwegian to English, the insult/threat leveled at the Norwegians seemed to lack some oompf;

We believe that security in Europe must be equal and indivisible. It can only be built on the basis of respect for genuine national interests, mutual respect and cooperation. The better you see it in Oslo, the better.

Top Marine General warns troops: ‘There’s a war coming’

When the Commandant of the Marine Corps tells his Marines to be ready for a “big-ass fight” coming their way, even non-Marines tend to pay attention.

Speaking to one of the Marine battalions that rotate six-month tours of duty in Norway, Gen. Robery Neller was quite upfront telling his Leathernecks, “I hope I’m wrong, but there’s a war coming.”

As reported by Military.com;

The Norwegian Home Guard base near Trondheim that houses the Marine rotational force was the first stop on Gen. Robert Neller’s annual Christmas tour.

The stop was a new one for the tour. The first Norway rotation, from 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines, deployed in January and was replaced by a new unit from 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, in late August.

Neller emphasized to the Marines that they should remain ready to fight at all times, predicting a “big-ass fight” on the horizon.

“I hope I’m wrong, but there’s a war coming,” Neller said. ” … You’re in a fight here, an informational fight, a political fight, by your presence.”

Neller later told the Marines that he expects the Pacific and Russia to be the service’s operational points of focus as the nation looks beyond the fights in the Middle East that have stretched into the better part of two decades.

The United States’ position that Russia presents a major threat was re-emphasized in the new National Security Strategy released Monday. The document discusses Russia’s practice of “using information tools” to interfere with other nations’ democracies and militant aggression that crosses borders.

“With its invasions of Georgia and Ukraine, Russia demonstrates its willingness to violate the sovereignty of states in the region,” the strategy states.

Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Ronald Green put the Marines’ role starkly.

“Just remember why you’re here,” he said. “They’re watching. Just like you watch them, they watch you. We’ve got 300 Marines up here; we could go from 300 to 3,000 overnight. We could raise the bar.”

Nordic rumble brewing between Norwegians and Muslim immigrants

soiWhat started in late 2015 as a small group of men in Kemi, Finland who decided to take a stand against both migrant lawlessness and government impotence has spread across Northern Europe and as far as the United States. As reported by the Norway’s English-language news portal The Local on Feb. 26, 2016, the Norwegian branch of The Soldiers of Odin  certainly seem on a collision course with an Islamist group who have tagged themselves The Soldiers of Allah.
