News Flash: Russian spying on the United States since 1850s

russian
Democrats respond to Russian spying.

Russian spying: Should I dare bring up the Soviet spies that infiltrated the Democrat Administration of Franklin Roosevelt?

This may come as somewhat of a shock to the Democrats, but Russia has been spying on our beloved America since at least the middle of the 19th century. Way before Boris Badenov tried to rig the outcome of the football game between Wossamatta U. and the Mud City Manglers, the Russians have been knee-deep in America’s affairs of state.

In spite of the Democrats recent clutching of pearls and near apoplectic drama when the cameras are on, those nogoodniks in Mother Russia have been snoopin’ and poopin’ on us since at least 1851.

As noted in the book The Treaty of Portsmouth and Its Legacies, edited by Steven Ericson and Allen Hockley, the American ambassador to Czarist Russia, Neil S. Brown from 1851-1853, reported back to Washington that the “most disagreeable features of Russia were its secrecy, surveillance, distrust, undue ceremony and delay, overbearing police, censorship, and espionage, including opening communications and spying.” Sounds like the Obama Administration.

It’s a fair bet that the same espionage and spying Ambassador Brown decried was also pointed directly at the American embassy in the then Russian capital of St. Petersburg.

By the way, the definition of espionage is “the practice

russia

of spying or using spies to obtain information about the plans and activities especially of a foreign government”.

Speaking of fair bets, our own CIA notes in their official website that a little sumpin’-sumpin’ called the Zagranichnaia okhranka (fancy Russian talk for the House of Romanov’s Imperial Police) opened their Paris office in 1883 to keep an eye on Russian troublemakers who’ve been booted from the Land of the Rus.

And yes, it’s a fair bet that the butt-in-skis at the unpronounceable Zagranichnaia okhranka poked their collective noses into the goings-on at the American embassy regarding the status of Russians who had recently emigrated to the States.

But if Czarist Russia isn’t your cup of tea, there’s always the re-branded Russians, also known as the Soviets.

In the Edward Mickolus book The Counterintelligence Chronology: Spying by and Against the United States from the 1700s through 2014, the author notes that the former-USSR posted their first (that we know of) intelligence officer in the United States.

As it turns out, standard spy-craft wasn’t enough for the Soviets. Even the dependably left-leaning PBS cited on their website;

The Amtorg Trading Corporation is an American company based in New York that was founded in 1924 by the Soviet Union to serve as its buying and selling organization in trade between the USSR and the USA. It handled the bulk of Soviet-American trade until 1935, and continues to exist today. Working as an Amtorg employee served as a convenient cover for Soviet spies, such as Morris Cohen.

That’s right. The same Morris Cohen who turned his back on the land of his birth, and later against Great Britain, for the Soviet Union.

Epic Beat Down: Russian Men Hospitalize Thug Migrants

“We don’t need Moscowbad!”

As a matter of national policy most nations in the north, south and west of Europe frown upon the slightest whiff of anything that might be described as “Islamophobia”. It’s bad enough when police in Germany, Sweden and Britain are accused of covering-up Muslim perpetrated crimes for fear of being labeled Islamophobic racists, France recently fined six youths 500 ($558) each for the high crime of displaying a banner that translated to English: “Expel The Islamists”. Saudis join with ISIS call for jihad against Western ‘Crusaders’ to include USA

Love, hate or indifferent to George W. Bush, many agree that during his administration there were clear lines of delineation of who basically was on our side and who was against us in the Middle East. Love, hate or indifferent to Barack H. Obama, many agree that knowing who in the Middle East has our back, and who wants to stab us in the back aren’t quite as clear cut.

When promising Iraq was sovereign, stable, and self-reliant, Obama ordered the last of the American combat troops out in 2011. But the situation is so convoluted now, even Western media outlets can’t seem to agree who is for us or against us. Case in point: Reporter Tom Batchelor of Great Britain’s the Daily Express newspaper noted on Oct. 14, 2015, that the ISIS terrorist organization is calling on a global jihad specifically aimed at Russian and American targets across the globe.

However, just the day prior, reporter Mary Chastain of the new media Breitbart.com news organization reports that ISIS has indeed called for an Islamic jihad against the two Cold War adversaries. Yet Chastain also noted that the al-Nusra Front terrorists and a number of Saudi Arabian clerics are also saddling-up with ISIS in calling for violence against the United States and Russia.

As cited by Batchelor, ISIS spokesman Abu Mohammad al-Adnani left little to the imagination when he said, “‘Islamic youth everywhere, ignite jihad against the Russians and the Americans in their crusaders’ war against Muslims.” With the al-Nusra Front pledging their military and doctrinal allegiance to the Usama Bin Laden founded al-Qaeda terrorists, Breitbart.com’s Chastain notes their leader Abu Mohammad al-Jolani fell in line with ISIS. As quoted, “If the Russian army kills the people of Syria, then kill their people. And if they kill our soldiers, then kill their soldiers. An eye for an eye.”

Far from done, al-Jolani as then vowed to pay “three million euros ($3.4 million) for anyone who can kill Bashar al-Assad and end his story.” He also promised to compensate anyone who killed a member of the Assad family. Ostensibly, the bounty on any member of the Assad family also includes any of his three young children.

Even further confusing the situation, Chastain also cites that a number of Sunni clerics in Saudi Arabia are calling for a Sunni jihad against the Russians. With al-Qaeda overwhelmingly Sunni, and ISIS equally Shiite, both groups seek the destruction of Russia, Israel and the United States.

But the regional patrons of ISIS and al-Qaeda are funded, supported, and armed by the same Russians and Americans that ISIS and al-Qaeda despise. Many have speculated that a sizable amount of weaponry from the Saudi inventory has made its way to their brother Sunnis in al-Qaeda. There has also been questions if Iran is sincere in their open declaration to fight against their fellow Shiites in ISIS.

Citing numerous sources, as previously covered by Examiner.com, Obama sent during early 2014 more Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided (TOW) anti-tank missiles in one shipment to Saudi Arabia than the entire inventory of the US Marine Corps. Also cited in the same report was that the Obama Administration shipped TOWs to one of the supposedly moderate Syrian militias who in fact are allied with the al-Nusra Front, who have often been characterized as the al-Qaeda branch in Syria.

The Washington Post reported earlier this year that between October 2010 and October 2014 alone, the United States sold the Sunni Saudi Arabians more than $90 billion worth of some of the most sophisticated weapons on the planet. For their part, the Russians have been quite open regarding giving billions of dollars worth of comparably sophisticated weapons to their Shiite-dominated Iranian allies.

Putin-mania sweeps Middle East, Russia; ‘I Go Hard Like Vladimir Putin’

CQvJ5BNWsAAfPOGRussian smart bombs, wayward Russian cruise missiles, and ultimately Russian troops aren’t the only things sweeping the Middle East. As reported by Ivan Plis of the Daily Caller news portal on Oct. 12, 2015, the folk hero image of Russian President Vladimir Putin may be old hat back in Mother Russia, but the cult of Vladimir is sweeping across the Middle East faster than the invading Mohammedan armies of old.

Flush with Yankee cash, Iran buys $21 billion of Russian aircraft, satellites

iranian-surface-to-surface-missileIn the wake of Barack Obama’s diplomatically finalized nuclear deal with Iran, the ayatollahs have found themselves with even deeper pockets then they already have. With Iran already perched atop a veritable ocean of oil, the ayatollahs calling the shots in the Tehran-government now have the international green light to go forward with not only a nuclear program, but thanks to Barack Obama and John Kerry, they will soon have access to well over a tenth of a trillion American dollars. Chinese carrier docked in Syria, Chinese ‘advisers’ to join Russians, Iranians

Russian Marines on the move in Syria, showdown with ISIS expected soon

While the American media focuses in on the Trump vs. Fiorina verbal zinger-fest with laser-like precision, foreign news services are picking up the Yankee slack on reporting of the Russian military build-up in the Middle East. As reported by Great Britain’s The Guardian and Israel’s military-centric new media portal DEBKAfile, both on Sept. 17, 2015, and also The Manila Times on Sept. 16, 2015, Russian Naval Infantry (Marines) have left their coastal bases and heading for a showdown with the Islamic jihadists situated further inland.

While most in the American media have essentially turned a blind eye to the Russians flexing their military muscle in Syria, even the handful that have acknowledged the Russian build-up as little more that the expansion of a fairly obscure airstrip on the Syrian coast. And with that expansion comes a handful of Russian Marines for base security and a handful of air defense missiles.Yet the latest from the Middle East is that the Russians have hit the ground with the most offensive weapons since morning breath and body odor.

The Russian-Iranian-Syrian mutual defense treaty the Western media forgot about

hi-assad-putin-asylum-852-8col

As every armchair historian knows, in 1914 a set of second and third rate nations drew the globe’s superpowers into the First World War. Closer to present day, Western Asia is a similar tangle of treaties and mutual defense pacts in which a single amateurish diplomatic decision or military misstep could conceivably result in a much, much wider war. Obama issues latest in a series of ‘warnings’ to Putin, no mention of red lines

bamaputin

Three years ago Barack Obama gave a very direct warning to Syrian President Bashir al-Assad to cease and desist using chemical weapons. Diplomatic and military wonks across the board agreed the same warning was also indirectly aimed directly at Assad’s patron in Moscow. To accentuate just how much he really meant it this time, the Commander-in-Chief of the American Armed Forces actually uttered the unmistakable words: Red line.

Syria: 1,000 Iranian Marines link up with 100 Russian Marines for combat ops

In what some are calling yet another diplomatic thumb directly in the eye of Barack Obama, Iranian special forces have reportedly landed in Syria to join with the relative handful of Russian Naval Infantry already in-country to aid the regime’s strongman retain power. As reported by Mark Rivett-Carnac of the Reuters news service via Time magazine, and also by Johnlee Varghese of the International Business Times (IBT) India edition, both on Sept. 11, 2015, a mixed force of approximately 1,000 Iranian Marines and members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps are within a figurative stone’s throw from the roughly 100 Russian Naval Infantry (Marines) who recently touched down in the war-torn nation. Syria: Russian Marines on the ground, Chinese Navy already in the Mediterranean

There are certain things that all Corps of Marines have in common regardless of nationality. Case in point would be one of the official functions of the American Marine Corps: “for service with the fleet in the seizure or defense of advanced naval bases…” With a flurry of reports coming out of the eastern Mediterranean hitting the news wires by the moment, it certainly appears that the Russian Marines have the same duties as their American counterparts.

Putin ups the ante; OKs advanced missile system for Iran’s ayatollahs

Gargoyle out of the tube.

Barack Obama: The best friend the West’s enemies ever had.

In what’s being seen as both a military game changer as well as a Russian thumb poked directly in Barack Obama‘s eye, Russian strongman Vladimir Putin has authorized the sale of an unknown number of batteries of one of the most advanced surface-to-air missile systems (SAMS) on the planet. As reported by the Agence France-Presse (via The Times of Israel) and also by The Daily Beast, both on April 13, 2015, the Russian weapons shipment not only has military leaders in Jerusalem burning the midnight oil, their American counterparts in the Pentagon as plenty worried are well. Again, Obama turns back on Ukrainian fight against Russians

Napoleon once said that an army marches on its stomach, but few historians believe the French Emperor had any food fights in mind, à la Bluto Blutarsky. Nevertheless, the America Commander-in-Chief has made clear that the best the beleaguered Ukrainians could hope for from Washington would be humanitarian aid in the form of a few already delivered trucks and plenty of surplus MREs (Meals, Ready to Eat).

Russia eclipsing America in Middle East, jets arrive in Iraq

“I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions.” — Barack Obama

In reports published by both The New York Times and The Atlantic Wire on June 29, 2014, the Iraqis have grown weary of waiting on a promised delivery of American fighter aircraft.  In what many consider the further waning of the United States as a prime mover and shaker, especially in the Middle East, the Russians are capably filling the void.

Obama’s foreign policy gaffe: Russia only a regional power, no ‘global ideology’

Hope and Change is easy. Being the leader of the Free World is hard …

Putin: Russian troops in Ukraine aren’t really Russian troops

In the course of human history, there has been more than a few examples of arrogant leaders. And then there are those who take arrogance to a new level. Vladimir Putin’s assertion that the 16,000 heavily armed Russian troops that are rapidly occupying all of the Crimean Peninsula aren’t actually Russian troops has left many Westerners speechless, as reported by on Mar. 4, 2014 by both The Washington Post and News Corp Australia.

Obama and Putin: 1945 Yalta redux

Editorial

There’s an old political adage that’s been floating around Eastern Europe for centuries, “Without the Ukraine, Russia is just another country. With the Ukraine, Russia has become an empire.

There’s also the sage wisdom of Spanish-American philosopher George Santayana who noted: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
