UK; Muslim group names Charlie Hebdo ‘International Islamophobe’ of the year

2012_Sydney_protestRationalizing their choice of the French magazine Charlie Hebdo as the winner of the International Islamophobe of the Year award by citing how Jews were “otherised” by the Third Reich, a British Muslim advocacy group has decided to take “a light-hearted” and “tongue in cheek” swipe at the satirical and often provocative publication. Somehow, the same advocacy group failed to mention the dozens killed or wounded by Islamic jihadists during a recent military-style assault on the magazine’s main office in Paris.

As reported by Breitbart.com on March 9, 2015, the Wembley-based organization that goes by the official sounding nom sympathique of the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has called out the French satirical magazine as guilty of furthering and perpetuating Islamophobia across the globe. Or as a British-based Islamo-centric news portal 5PillarsUK.com quite plainly cited Charlie Hebdo as a prime example of “public figures and organisations whose actions have generated or perpetuated hatred and/or violence against Muslims or their religion.”

While many in Europe’s nearly 50 million-strong Muslim demographic took exception to Charlie Hebdo’s irreverent cartoon caricature of the founder of Islam, Mohammed, many called for blood revenge. On Jan. 7, 2015, two Islamist terrorists armed with automatic weapons attacked the magazine’s Paris office. Within 48 hours of the initial attack, a local Jewish kosher market was hit by a singular gunman.

By the time the smoke cleared, the self-professed Islamic jihadists killed 16 and wounded 20. While 5PillarsUK.com did describe the assault on Charlie Hebdo as “a murderous attack,” the website rationalized the bloodbath as the magazine’s fault “for its continual stoking of Islamophobic sentiment by caricaturing Muslims as terrorists and ridiculing their beliefs.”

Nonetheless, past recipients of the IHRC Islamophobic awards run quite the gamut. Past title winners include Barack Obama, Tony Blair, the entire Fox News network, as well as anyone connected to the film “American Sniper.”
