When ‘Reality TV’ gets a little too real

NEWS FLASH!! Grass is green, the sky is blue, Phil Robertson is a conservative Christian.

By now, liberals, independents and conservatives have all heard about Phil Robertson’s GQ Magazine interview.

No pun intended, but suffice it to say… feathers have been ruffled.

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s a thumbnail of what’s going on: the big daddy of the über-popular reality TV show “Duck Dynasty” stated during an interview that he considered the homosexual act not only sexually undesirable, but sinful.

Before I go any further, I must warn you, gentle reader, if you consider certain medical words to be offensive, I kindly ask you to stop reading.

Here’s what’s causing all the kerfuffle:

It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.

Wow. How controversial.

But I digress, the Arts and Entertainment network, which airs Duck Dynasty, responded by essentially firing the family patriarch:

We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.

Now with all that out of the way, I don’t care if A+E dumps Phil.

Why? Personally, I hope the entire Robertson crew tells A+E to go straight to hell.

Here’s a couple things I’d like folks to consider…

  • What did GQ think he was going to say? It’s not exactly a big secret the Robertsons are conservative Christians. I don’t seem to recall any of the family living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
  • I know A+E has every right to place Daddy Phil on so-called hiatus, but c’mon gang — they haven’t exactly had much of a problem raking in those huge piles of cash D.D. has brought into their bank account.
  • Is what Mr. Robertson said right or wrong theologically? That depends on your theology, or even lack thereof as far as that’s concerned. How, what, and if one hase any religious opinion is up to the individual. Period.
  • Is what Mr. Robertson said right or wrong physiologically? No it wasn’t. One doesn’t need to be a physiologist thinker or even a philosophical Nostredumbass to figure out what the rectum, colon and anus are for. The odor of feces is repellent for a reason. Anyone who considers the smell of a waste treatment plant or someone breaking wind to be an aphrodisiac has bigger problems than I could ever address.

Just an Ignorant Redneck…

What... no participation trophy?
What… no participation trophy?

Don’t let the beard and headband fool you.

As much as many on the left love to sneer at those hick, backwoods, White Cracker Robertsons, allow me to point out that they certainly don’t need A+E’s money.

Prior to Duck Dynasty hitting the airwaves, Phil Robertson was already a multi-millionaire. By the way, son Willie is worth $20 million. Not bad for a bunch of ignorant Rednecks, huh?

Sure, Phil’s pulled in a ton of folding green from TV, but he sure didn’t make every cent of his $15 million from a TV show.

And he may have grown up in a cabin with no electricity or indoor plumbing, but he’s far from stupid. The man has a Master’s Degree in Education.

Why Can’t We All Just Be Happy, Happy, Happy…?

I know that a whole lot of conservatives have gone overboard saying that A+E is somehow violating Robertson’s 1st Amendment rights. If they want to or don’t want to put him on the air, well… that is totally up to them. So to many of my fellow conservatives, let it go and just get over it.

As far as liberals are concerned, suffice it to say – when they hate you, they really hate you.

in all seriousness, here are two quotes I’d like you to read, then see if you caught the same thing I saw.

From CNN’s Dunce-in-Residence Piers Morgan:

Phil Robertson is not a ‘victim of political correctness’. He’s a victim of his own repulsively racist, homophobic bigotry.

Then in a joint statement from the NAACP and the Human Rights Campaign, they expressed:

Outrage and deep concern about the recent racist, homophobic, and ill-informed remarks made by Phil Robertson.

What race is gay?

  1. A&E needs Duck Dynasty and the Robertson’s not the other way around. I hope the Robertson’s tell A&E where to stick it and go to another network. Let’s see how they like their ratings if that happens.

  2. Mr. Phil Robertson, who also preaches, answered a question according to the BIBLE in which he believes is the infallible word of GOD. (as do I) He did NOT single out gays, as he heaped the mantle of disobedience to GOD’s laws on sexual behavior on heterosexuals as well, and drunkards, liars, slanderers, gluttons, fornicators, adulterers, and backbiters. (It’s found in Corinthians in one place…several others, too) Is the gay community angry because he found no fault with whom they loved, but the lusts of the flesh being indulged contrary to GOD’s laws? Same thing for heterosexuals indulging in the lusts of the flesh outside of marriage. Tit for Tat. Get over it. If Sinners want Christians APPROVAL of their sinful behavior, which is what they are demanding, IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! We have our eyes fixed on the hereafter and are not of this world. What may seem right to a man can be death to the soul.

    1. If you could stand on the highest mountain and preach it to everyone on earth as did Noah did they still won’t hear. But that this the finest message of what the bible says then I have ever heard. thank you

  3. Well Phil Robertson has say anything he wants. His opinions are apparently shared by the over 1,000,000 people who like the Boycott AE Facebook page. I personally feel homosexuality is not compatible with a mature society. Sexual deviance without repercussions rots the soul. This is one of reasons United States is rotting from inside. I don’t care for Islam but they have it right on this issue.

  4. What I find offensive & insulting is the homosexuals comparing their sinful lifestyle CHOICE to the plight of Blacks & slavery and all that they really have suffered!!!!
A person born black, white, brown, or any color can not change, but NOBODY is “born gay”! No matter what lies they come up with to make people believe it is true, it is not!!!

  5. A&E has set forth some very strict guidelines regarding what constitutes unacceptably rude, offensive, hateful speech. Even speaking of your personal sexual preference and what you believe the ethical/moral stand of your religion is, on a given topic, constitutes a violation of their new zero tolerance posture.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for them to enforce it regarding far more hateful and direct slanders aimed at conservative Christians.

  6. To me, the lunacy of it all is that A&E appears ignorant that the very people that so obviously disdain, is the largest demographic in their audience. They literally dispise their viewership. Here is hoping another network will see the oportunity crush A&E.

  7. Phil’s comments were given in a interview for GQ Magazine, The gay groups let out a scream to A&E and also to Include NAACP. Rather then thank them for their imput, they told Phil your fired. Does he need money? Not in the least. But his Christian Beliefs were challenged when asked about this stupid topic. What did GQ Magazine Expect? Duhhh Gee Wizzy Phil we thought you was a dumb redneck.!

Concerning the NAACP im still working on where they got the racist part in the Interview, must of been Rev. Al Sharpton on his horse again………….

  8. From my point of view ( being gay ) I dont care one bit about anyones opinion. He has his, I have mine, you have yours. It dont bother me. You life wether straight, gay, or bisexual is your life. A&E needs to leave this guys the hell alone and people need to understand that not all gay people have an agenda and not all of us get offended or truly care about what others say. I joined the Army ( combat arms ) to serve and defend what the US was founded on, one being able to express your opinions….. lately we have allowed people to get so upset about the smallest things. Here soon if i sneeze wrong someone is gonna make a law against it. Grow thick skin people if what some guy you dont even know or will ever know bothers you so much i feel bad for you…….

  9. I thought I asked you all to be more accepting of other people, and not to focus on other people’s personal lives? That’s not happening here. There’s nowhere near enough love shown for all of God’s children in this thread, and that’s sad. After all aren’t they also part of God’s creation? Who are you to judge God and his work?

  10. I was as puzzled last night, as I am this evening what this means: “ll-informed remarks made by Phil Robertson.” Just what was ill-informed. How gay men have sex? Has that changed somehow? I just don’t know what he possibly said that was ill-informed. I feel like it is one of the more ridiculous statements release regarding this subject. A&E needs the Roberson’s “clan” more than they need A&E….

  11. Excuse me.
Phil’s statements were not made on A&E.
They were not made, as far as I know on A&E’s property or business concerns.
They were not made while doing anything that concerns A&E.
Explain to me how A&E was “right to place Phil on hiatus”?
Are you smoking something – or just trying to ride the fence here?
A&E had NO BUSINESS sticking their nose into it.
It was an independent interview with a magazine that is not connected to A&E.
A&E has no business playing referee in this, and that is what they were doing, for the sole purpose of trying to mediate one group of peoples rights over another persons rights.

You need to take a good long look at yourself, and take a long hard think about what Freedom and Rights actually are, and until then, you need to keep your opinion to yourself.

  12. As a Christian myself, I believe in what Phil said and CQ knew the answer they would get, if it is appalling to them then don’t ask the question. I hope A&E rots in hell, I believe in Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. God will definitely bless the Robertson family for taking a stand in what the Bible teaches us.

  13. Why are the black “reverends”chiming in?are gays a race of people now?and do they need the black race baiters defending them?whats the cash flow drying up a bit there jj and al sharpasabowling ball

  14. Freedom of speech. Well. Let’s say it again. Freedom of speech. Sounds good rolling off the tongue doesn’t it. Ok, now, let’s say, intolerance. One more time. I N T O L E R A N C E. Ok now . What does the gay agenda completely demand that they have in this society? The demand free speech don’t they. They want to be heard. Fine. They have a voice. Now, what do they insist that we all do concerning accepting them. They demand that all mankind stop the intolerance and exersize tolerance concerning all men and their beliefs and their lifestyle and that they would have a voice to agree or disagree with each viewpoint. Well they have it. So basically what we have here is a media outlet that wholeheartedly rejects the premise for which the gay agenda was built in the first place. Now A&E is the voice of constitutional dissent by condemning free speech and exersizing intolerance for which they say they stand. Now we all can say it with impunity and with no remorse. A&E you are the haters. You are the turncoat. You are the hypocrite. You are the loser. You are hereby rejected. We will no longer watch your filth. Because now that you have rejected the mainstream and settled for the minority we the people dismiss you forthwith and post haste.
    Big Steve from Alaska!

  15. why should we as Christians hide our beliefs? A Muslim in this country dressed in their religious garb doesn’t have to hide. The very sight of one of them offends me to no end! That said, I do not tell them they cannot wear it! In the end, it will make them easier to spot and ultimately take out! There is a war on Christians from the current potus on down and it is time we started to was back! I stand with Phill 100%!!!!!

  16. I don’t think anyone complained when god destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. Except Lot’s wife and we know what happened to her. It’s disgusting how we get their “lifestyle” crammed down our throat yet we can’t say a word. Gay’s own Hollywood that’s why everyone is going along.

  17. There are comments in the interview that are a little racist and they have nothing to do with the gay remark ….. Next time read the whole interview ..

    1. You mean when he self-described his family as looked upon as “white trash”? There is little difference in the bigotry against poor whites and poor blacks…. next time read the whole interview …

  18. I guess if the network wants to stop Phil from (playing) being on TV, that is their decision. They are in charge. If Phil cannot play, he should simply take his bat and ball and go home. He does, after all, have the whole team. Sounds like playground etiquette to me.
