(VIDEO) Busting the Myth of ‘The Poor Teacher’: Try the Starting Pay of a US Marine

Cash in while you can, sweetie. Not long until she starts tipping the scales north of the 250 range.

I’ve read it, you’ve read it, we’ve all read it. Story after story of the Oh-woe-is-me of the now ex-teachers who were fired after choosing to sell their naked images to porn sites.

Without fail, these gals all blamed the main reason for turning to pornography is supposedly due to the pay (or lack thereof) in the teaching profession.

That got me thinking; financially, just how bad off are teachers?

As a resident of the Tar Heel State, I thought I’d check and see what teacher pay is like state-wide. Just for the helluvit, I thought I’d compare that to what a no-stripes Private (paygrade E-1) makes in the Marine Corps.

But first, please refrain from any of that garbage about how teachers need a bachelor’s degree, and a new recruit doesn’t. That mindset implies that college grads are automatically in debt for tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Anyone’s who’s ever worked their way through school knows damn good and well that a diploma doesn’t always equate to being neck-deep in the red.

Back to the topic at hand.

As noted by the official military website of DFAS (Defense Finance and Accounting Service), the staring pay for a US Marine is a mere $1,917.60 a moth, $23,011.20 a year. This is effective as of 1 Jan, 2023.

Then we come to the official State of North Carolina’s Department of Public Education pay scale for Fiscal Year 2022-2023. Keep in mind, the NC teachers will get another pay raise on 1 July, 2023.

A newly minted graduate pulls in $3,700 a month, $37,000 a year (even with two months off in the summer). No special needs credentials, no ESL verifications, zero experience.

For a Marine to pull in the kind of coin a basics-only teacher makes in largely rural North Carolina, a Staff Sergeant (paygrade E-6) with six years of experience makes only slightly higher.

As far as officers are concerned, a Second Lieutenant with two years of experience (normally assigned as a Platoon Commander) makes only a few dollars more per month than a very basically qualified teacher absolutely no experience.

Just me, but these I turned to porn to feed my kids bullshit is wearing kind of thin.

BTW, if you’re seeing R-Rated ads, please let me know. I’ve asked the advertiser to tone down to G-Rated ONLY. From what I’m seeing on my end, it’s all G and PG stuff, but some are letting me know that they’re getting some pretty explicit stuff. Thanks.
