Even the mildest of political junkies has already heard that former-Trump trade advisor has been found guilty on two counts of Contempt of Congress.
As reported by CBS News (via MSN);
“Former President Donald Trump’s top White House trade adviser Peter Navarro was found guilty Thursday of two counts of criminal contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.”
“A jury in Washington, D.C., convicted the former Trump administration official following a trial that lasted just over a day. Navarro’s defense team called no witnesses.”
“Sentencing is set for January, and Navarro faces a maximum of one year in prison and a fine of $100,000 for each count. Speaking with reporters outside the court, Navarro and his attorneys indicated they would appeal the verdict, calling the prosecution “a landmark case” about separation of powers.”
There was a time when Contempt of Congress charges were about as effective as any given proclamation by the British monarchy here in the 21st Century.
Does anyone remember Obama’s wingman (AKA: Eric Holder) finding himself at the receiving end of a contempt charge back in 2012?
For those with a foggy memory, it was due to Holder telling the House to go screw themselves when it was discovered that the Obama Administration was running guns to the Mexican drug and slave-trafficking cartels.
Back to present day – the Democrat majority pre-2022 House and Team Biden have now set the precedent for Contempt of Congress charges. Things are different now. Much different.
So, what is House Speaker McCarthy doing with a razor slim majority in the House of Representatives?
Nothing… absolutely nothing. Just like he’s supposed to.
