Speaking as someone who hasn’t been a fan of an NBA team for the past 50-years, I think I just became a fan of the Boston Celtics.
Well, maybe not the team itself, but I’m really starting to like their head coach, Joe Mazzulla.
As it turns out, Mazzulla recently turned heads and left jaws on the floor during a press conference when a patently stupid and face-baiting question was asked of coach recently (see the first video below).
Turns out, this isn’t Mazzulla’s first time leaving reporters maws agape (second video below).
And just a bit of Mazzulla’s background to better understand his “controversial” history with the press;
- Mazzulla is the son of a white (Sicilian) father and a black mom.
- More than a few news sites describe him as a “devout” Catholic. Keep in mind those aren’t Mazzulla’s words, but those of the press.
- As cited by NCRonline.org, he at least implies that his whole family is also Catholic; “My wife and I and our family have tried to just… be where God wants [us] to be.”
Sadly, Mazzulla’s father, Daniel, passed away recently from brain cancer. But it’s a sure bet that Daniel and Latresa (née: Murphy) have an awful lot to be proud of.
