In the mad rush to ban everything Russian, never let it be said that the University of Florida Gainsville was behind the power curve.
As the good folks over at Campus Reform noted, “Given current events in Ukraine and elsewhere in the world, we determined it was appropriate to remove the name of Karl Marx that was placed on a group study room at the University of Florida in 2014,” Hessy Fernandez, director of strategic communications, said.”
Granted that the UF decision doesn’t come anywhere near the bravery of the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra’s cancellation of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” (sarcasm off), at least those Welshmen didn’t wait until the invasion was nearing the one-month-old mark.
But back to the topic at hand.
While folks of my mindset are glad that the glorification of this madman has finally been brought to an end, blaming the Russian invasion of Ukraine is monumental in its stupidity.
After all, Marx was a German, not a Russian.
Don’t the folks running UF even know the basics of history? Guess not.
Keep in mind, it’s people like Hessy Fernandez who allegedly “educate” our children.
In light of the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra, with the agreement of @stdavidshall , feel the previously advertised programme including the 1812 Overture to be inappropriate at this time.
