While New York City mayor was still yukking it up how the people from Kansas (and presumably the rest of Fly-Over Country) fail to have a “Brand”, Lt. Alison Russo of the FDNY was literally butchered to dead in Astoria, Queens, NY.
She had just left her station and was on her way to lunch.
As reported by the New York Post, Lt. Russo was a mere six-months from retiring (emphasis mine);
The on-duty FDNY lieutenant who was stabbed to death in a random attack in Queens Thursday was a 24-year veteran of the department and planned to retire in just six months to spend more time with her daughter and grandchildren.
Lt. Alison Russo-Elling, who was attacked less than a block away from her station house, was one of the first responders at Ground Zero after the 9/11 terror attacks and “dedicated her life to saving others,” her shocked colleagues said.
The 61-year-old “was about six or seven months away from retirement,” Vincent Variale, president of Local 3621, told reporters outside the hospital where Russo-Elling succumbed to her injuries. “She was talking about it.”
On a personal note, I know and am friends with people born, raised and lived for decades in New York City.
Only after viewing this rather shocking video below, am I really starting to understand why they left.
