USU Aggies girls CAN jump…
It really wasn’t all that long ago when news of a handful of universities decided to forfeit their women’s volleyball games against their counterparts playing for SJSU (San Jose State University).
Well, counterparts isn’t actually the right word. Perhaps I should just say opponents. After all, counterparts denotes at least the basic equality across the boards of the rival teams.
But as it turns out, SJSU has a young man on the women’s volleyball squad. I guess it goes without saying that a number of NCAA schools (Southern Utah, Boise State, Wyoming, Utah State and Nevada) are purposefully forfeiting the matches due to the unfair advantage San Jose’s Spartans.
Interestingly enough, SJSU is now making noise over two of the home games they won by forfeit, demanding that Utah State and Boise State fork over $1,250 apiece, supposedly because of lost revenue.
As reported by the alternative news outlet, American Greatness (emphasis mine);
According to emails obtained by Outkick in a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Boise State, SJSU Athletic Director Jeff Konya wrote to BSU Athletic Director Jeremiah Dickey asking that the school pay SJSU for the forfeit.
Konya wrote:
“Your institution’s arbitrary decision not to play an otherwise eligible NCAA team has resulted in harm to SJSU financially and our institution’s brand. We estimate we missed out on approximately $1,250 in game day revenue by not playing the [match] on Saturday when you add all of the various revenue sources (i.e., concessions, parking among others). I would ask to be made whole at the very least.”
As noted by the tweet posting below, Jennifer Sey, the founder of XX-XY Athletic clothing company, pointed out the obvious, thusly shoving it right down SJSU’s throat.
SJSU asked Utah State & Boise State for money over forfeited volleyball matches saying they caused the university reputational harm.
I think they did that all on their own.
The nerve. It is the Bay Area though. Hubris is kind of their thing. https://t.co/NkZSuq4nEe
