As seen at the end of this article, Lefticrat politicians have this strange love affair with the notion that hunters “don’t need” an AR-15 to hunt deer.
In a strange way, their kind of right.
While the caliber .223 is synonymous with the ArmaLite AR-15 platform, does any given hunter really need said firearm?
Well, no more than any given hunter would **need** the 30-06 Springfield, 6.5mm Creedmoor, .308 Winchester, 7mm Remington or the 30-30 Winchester.
But I get it as to why so many gun-grabbers have a particular morbid fascination with the AR-15. I believe it’s because it bears quite the resemblance to the military’s M16A2 rifle.
Could it simply be that the left is nothing more than just scared by the physical appearance? I think so. After all, both the M16A2 and the AR-15 have quite the martial look to them.
But back to the topic at hand.
As cited by the good folks over at StagArms.com, instead of a by-state roster of who allows the AR-15 (.223) to be used for deer hunting, it just might be easier to note the states that don’t allow those particular calibers and weapons (emphasis mine);
First, you should know the laws for hunting deer and other game with specific types of guns and ammunition in each state so that you don’t accidentally break the law when you start hunting. It’s best to look at the states that don’t allow deer hunting with .223 diameter bullet or an AR-15 rifle.
Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, Washington, and West Virginia require larger bullets to be used to hunt game. However, these laws are often changing, so it’s a good idea to check with your state to see if hunting with a .223 diameter bullet is still legal. Weights of bullets also come into play as well, so that may affect what you are able to use.
So how about that? In some of the most gun hating states, such as California, Maryland, New York and Vermont, it’s perfectly legal to go hunting with an AR-15.
Whoda thunkit?
By the way… the above is limited only to deer hunting.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if some (or all) of the above mentioned states allow the .223 and AR-15 to take out truly destructive and potentially deadly wildlife, such as coyotes and feral boars.
