(VIDEO) Six European Leaders to Hold Zelensky’s Hand at Monday Meeting w/ Trump

Monday, August 18, 2025, Pres. Trump is slated to have a face-to-face with Ukrainian Pres. Volodymir Zelensky. But Zelensky is bringing plenty of back-up with him.

As noted by the EuropeanConservative.com, the following will join the Ukrainian president in DC;

  • European Commission President/Chief Den Mother Ursula von der Leyen
  • French President Emmanuel Macron
  • German Chancellor Friedrich Merz
  • UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer
  • Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni
  • NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte

Interesting list. While most of them are easily considered as left-of-center as well as very-pro Ukraine, Meloni is known for some rather conservative views.

Nonetheless, Sigma.software notes just how invested Italy is on Zelensky’s government;

Sigma Software Group took part in Ukraine Recovery Conference 2025 held in Rome on July 10-11. It was a record-breaking event with over 4,000 participants from 70 countries and around 200 signed agreements and memorandums for a total amount of approximately €11 billion.

It should be noted that Sigma also cites this entire rodeo was “Organized by the governments of Italy and Ukraine…”

Another point to ponder; why is NATO’s Secretary General in attendance? Then again, NATO is a military alliance. Why is there a civilian bureaucracy running a military mutual defense alliance?

I’ve always wondered why NATO has “ambassadors” representing member nations. NATO isn’t a nation, and I know that I haven’t gotten a vote in their civilian structure.

Just so the American people know where their tax dollars are going, know that here’s a sampler of some of the NATO bureaucracy;

  • Special Representative on Women, Peace and Security
  • Science for Peace and Security
  • Office of the Chairman of the Civil and Military Budget Committees (CBC/MBC)
  • International Board of Auditors for NATO (IBAN)

I’m sure all these offices and directories are the epitome of efficiency (sarcasm, off).
