There’s a reason why…
As it turns out, Artificial Intelligence is now officially racist. No, really. AI is now being hammered for being capable of racial discrimination. Supposedly, AI identified Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Serena Williams as dudes.
So, who’s leveling this nasty accusation? Some gal by the name of Joy Buolamwini who now writes news(?) for Time magazine. You may remember Time from your youth.
Anyhow, Time touts Buolamwini as;
- A computer scientist
- Founder of the Algorithmic Justice League
- A poet of code
No… seriously. You can’t make this kind of stuff up.
I know what the first one is, but zero clue to what the second and third are. Mainly because I don’t want to give a fraction of an ounce of credibility to either of made-up titles. But I will wager that both pretend entities believe a woman can have a penis.
But I will note that she does have a BS degree grom the Georgia Institute of Technology (according to her Linked-In account). From there, things start veering away from her being some sort of a computer savant.
Her initial Master’s is from Oxford University in Education (shades of “Dr. Jill”). That doesn’t inspire much confidence in her computer bona fides.
She also has a Master’s and a Ph.D. from MIT. Both in Media Arts and Sciences. Media… really? That inspires even less.
But I wanted to give Miss Buolamwini an objective look, so I gave her Time hit piece article a look.
The very first sentence; “Machines can discriminate in harmful ways.” It went downhill from there.
In all honesty, my first thoughts;
- My can opener opens cans. It doesn’t make a moral judgement over what I eat.
- My TV turns on and off. It doesn’t make a moral judgement over what I watch.
- My car takes me from point A to B. It doesn’t make a moral judgement over where I go.
Thankfully, Anthony Cumia and Gavin McInnes make some sense over this whole smoldering pile slow-burning bullshit.
