So, now you’re $100,000 in debt… with an Art History degree.
There was a point in time when those who were considered as classically educated would have at least a working knowledge of both Liturgical Latin and Classical Greek.
A few examples from America’s War Between the States;
- As a boy, Robert E. Lee read Greek Classics in their original language. By the time he graduated from West Point, he could also read and speak in ancient Latin and modern French.
- The hero of Little Roundtop, Joshua Chamberlain taught Rhetoric at Bowdoin College in Maine. He also mastered modern French, Spanish, German, Italian, Arabic, as well as the ancient tongues of Syriac, Latin, Greek and Hebrew.
Fast-forward about a century-and-a-half, incoming college freshman are considered exceptional of they can read and write the English language at a 9th Grade proficiency level.
Thankfully, many young people are starting to understand that the road to success doesn’t always mean a college degree.
According to the good folks over at BusinessWire.com, the number of enrollments at trade schools and trade programs (IE: “Community College“) stood at 917,000 in 2021. They’re also estimating the number in 2030 will be at 1.6 million.
As any parent who’s already researched the topic, Community College is easily two-thirds cheaper than any given State University.
