I thought they came here to pick fruit and vegetables?
For those unfamiliar with the lay of the land in South Carolina, Dorchester County is a largely rural and solidly conservative part of South Carolina’s Low Country.
The far southeastern part of Dorchester is home to a number of antebellum “Old South” bedroom communities comprising the greater Charlston metropolitan area.
Shrimp boils, backyard bonfires and beer are simply everyday occurrences. What isn’t wanted and considered as normal would-be illegal aliens. Especially illegal aliens armed to the teeth and carrying a few packs of cocaine.
Arrested by Dorchester County deputy sheriffs, Joaquin Lopez-Rubio, 35, of Mexico, was pulled over initially for reckless driving. But then came driving without a license and having nearly nine grams of cocaine on him.
While owning firearms is perfectly legal in South Carolina, in light that Lopez-Rubio is in the United States illegally, it’s a safe bet he could face additional charges for the following (as noted by the J. Baker Law Group);
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
- Individuals prohibited from owning a firearm under state or federal law can face felony charges if found in possession. Penalties include up to 5 years in prison and significant fines.
- Unlawful Sale or Transfer
- Selling or transferring firearms to a prohibited individual is a serious offense. Penalties range from misdemeanor charges for minor infractions to felony charges for egregious violations.
- Carrying a Firearm Without a Permit
- Carrying a concealed firearm without a valid permit is a misdemeanor that can result in up to 1 year in jail and fines up to $1,000.
- Straw Purchases
- Purchasing a firearm on behalf of someone prohibited from owning one is a federal crime that South Carolina enforces rigorously. Penalties include lengthy prison sentences and substantial fines.
